During the last year, Customs have repaid around 40,000 duty reclaims, totalling £133million. However, they also rejected a further 20,000 claims for duty repayment, largely because the claims were out of time or did not have the necessary evidence to support the claims. This highlights the value of taking some care in the preparation and submission of a properly constructed claim for repayment, which makes it easier for Customs to make a repayment.
There are many reasons for making a duty reclaim, including a change to a product's tariff classification, retrospective implementation of a duty relief, adjustments to the customs value etc. In most cases we can go back for a full three years, in some cases even longer. If you think you may have overpaid customs duty and would like some help to reclaim what belongs to you, please get in touch.
